Man, is this an old pic!

Here's an old pic of the car. Nice Turbines and blackouts :)

Why put an LCD and computer in the dash?

Believe me, that is a question I get asked by every person I tell about 'The Project' as it has become known (Thanks JV). Simply put, it's cool and unusual. It will allow me to do many things while on the road.

1. I will be able to listen to all my songs at will.
2. XM Sat Radio Integration
3. My passengers can watch movies in DVD, Divx, WMA or any other PC compatible format.
4. GPS in case I get lost or have no idea where my final destination is located.
5. E-mail on the go
6. Traffic & Weather reports
7. Internet Access
8. Various Passenger Compartment Controls (Climate, etc.)
9. Tuning the engine management on the fly (more about that later)

Yeah, it seems absurd to most but I am looking forward to its completion.

Background

I have owned this car, a 1987 Ford Mustang GT Convertible, since my senior year in high school. It served me well through my college years and beyond as a daily driver. It wasn't the best choice for winter driving but I think it helped me learn how to better control the car. Many of my friends had Mustangs and I had always had my heart set on one. Upon reading the local classified ads one day, I found one I could afford. A few days and several thousand dollars later, I was the new owner of a charcoal gray 1987 Mustang GT Convertible with a black top. The wheels had been set in motion.
Follow the car through the many changes it has seen over the years.

Mustang History

I truly believe that the 87-93 Mustang is going to be historically portrayed as the vehicle that sparked the current climate of performance oriented vehicles from both the Manufacturers and tuners. It has clearly been the launching pad for a huge aftermarket. I really believe the fox bodied version of Mustangs is the '57 Chevy of this generation. Sure, there were always F-Body Camaros and Firebirds, but they didn't have the following that the Mustang enjoys (hence the termination of those vehicles). If you remember back when these cars were in their heyday, there was a huge selection of blowers, cams, a few intakes and a plethora of throttle bodies in various diameters. It wasn't always that way. Does anyone remember cutting, porting and welding back together stock intakes? Things developed slowly and, as a matter of fact, are still developing. It's really amazing, if you think about it...These cars are having a resurgence due to their current price level and availability of parts. I have seen many a high school aged driver behind the wheel of one of these era cars.

Ford does things a little different now, realizing that many Mustang owners are performance oriented drivers. New Mustangs are released to performance part makers and developers before the release of the actual car. This will help to ensure a decent selection of parts available for the Mustang buying public. It's a great progression that I think owes some credit to the Fox Body Mustangs. Well, come on now - get out there and build one!
